About Donna

IMG_9734-200x300Donna Kirk’s writings – her short stories as well as the book Finding Matthew, a literary non-fiction narrative – revolve on her family, and particularly, on her son Matthew, who was born with physical and developmental challenges. Her non-fiction work has appeared in The Quick Brown Fox, TheMighty.com, Canadian Voices (volume two), Ars Medica, CommuterLit, and The Daily American, a U.S. newspaper. Donna lives in Oakville, Ontario, with her husband, Ed.

Donna began writing short stories about her life growing up, disclosing situations and exposing feelings that were only alluded to, but certainly never discussed.

Donna refers to these short unpublished family stories as “true fiction”, a genre composed of actual events that didn’t necessarily happen in the order presented. These jumbled vignettes made it easier for older family members to hide. However, there may be a day of reckoning when everyone is re-united!

Donna is a graduate of Early Childhood Education at the University of Toronto but chose a career in fashion design. Her incorporated company, Racquet Follie Ltd. designed, manufactured and sold racquet sport attire for women in the Toronto area.
